Driving to Utah Music

As a kid, many a day were spent driving across the desert to and from Utah. In the days pre-Walkman (very pre-iPod), you didn't have many entertainment choices. You could (a) annoy siblings, (b) climb back and forth from the 2nd backseat to the 3rd backseat of the station wagon, (c) ask how much longer, (d) count cacti, (e) read or (f) annoy siblings.

(a) and (f) were popular choices. All of the aforesaid alternatives, however, were elected while listening to the limited alternatives on the radio.

So lay back, picture mile after glorious mile of cacti and listen to the sounds of the 70's and early 80's, driving through the desert style.

Umm...where is "Don't Worry Be Happy"???

I guess Don't Worry was later in the 80's, but how did you compile this list? Sometimes when I am driving along and one of these songs comes on the radio, it frightens me to realize that I like the tune and know the words.

You don't remember the most played of all? How can you forget the cassette that graced that shiny tape deck in Big Wig the station wagon? If you haven't figured it out, it is the Muppet Movie Soundtrack. Incidentally, I just pulled it out of the depths of the Sentra glove compartment as I cleaned her out at the dealership. Yes, it is the very same tape.

I can still sing every song. I'll perform for you next time. "Moving right along we're truly birds of a feather, we're in this together and we know where we're going..." BTW, I spared everyone and left off Barry Manilow from the playlist. "At the Copa...Copacabana...."
